"I Swing For Mike Butler"
In a continuing effort to help raise funds for our swing comrad Mike Butler, this event is adopting the same methods that other swing entities and dancers have implemented. We thank them for their proactivity and sensitivity in regards to this matter. Mike Butler is a dancer, an instructor, a father, a son and a brother. Mike was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and his medical expenses are mounting as he fights this new battle. Anything that can be contributed is helpful.
Here is what is happening........ When The Boilermaker Jazz Band take the stage for their second set, certain volunteer dancers (they will be identified) will be "Taxi Dancers". These dancers are dancing to raise funds so when you approach them during this hour of dance, please be prepared to contribute any amount you desire. Please donate to that specific dancer. Those dancers will then pass the funds to a collector and the funds will be tallied and announced before the night ends. Let's continue to have fun with this concept that was suggested by Big City Swing and implemented by Fizz recently. The Galaxie has been on top of this thing from the start and has contributed immensely in their own creative way.
Here is a list of dancers who are prominent in our scene and have agreed to be a Taxi Dancer for this event.
Alisha Bloom
Andrew Twiss
Carl Linder
Chris Echols
James Pustejovsky
Karrie Willis
Margot Toppen
Max Kering-Whiting
Orlando S. Carbolona Jr.
This event is shaping up to have some, but not much fanfare in between the band breaks and that is okay. We will be receiving some great, I mean absolutely sensational live music from the boys out of Pittsburgh, we will look pretty and debonair in our summer "white clothing" and we will be back at The Willowbrook in full force on a Sunday night that is becoming all to rare. Let's create a moment, huh?
