"I Swing For Mike Butler"

In a continuing effort to help raise funds for our swing comrad Mike Butler, this event is adopting the same methods that other swing entities and dancers have implemented. We thank them for their proactivity and sensitivity in regards to this matter. Mike Butler is a dancer, an instructor, a father, a son and a brother. Mike was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and his medical expenses are mounting as he fights this new battle. Anything that can be contributed is helpful.

Here is what is happening........ When The Boilermaker Jazz Band take the stage for their second set, certain volunteer dancers (they will be identified) will be "Taxi Dancers".  These dancers are dancing to raise funds so when you approach them during this hour of dance, please be prepared to contribute any amount you desire. Please donate to that specific dancer. Those dancers will then pass the funds to a collector and the funds will be tallied and announced before the night ends. Let's continue to have fun with this concept that was suggested by Big City Swing and implemented by Fizz recently. The Galaxie has been on top of this thing from the start and has contributed immensely in their own creative way.

Here is a list of dancers who are prominent in our scene and have agreed to be a Taxi Dancer for this event.

Alisha Bloom

Andrew Twiss

Carl Linder

Chris Echols

James Pustejovsky

Karrie Willis

Margot Toppen

Max Kering-Whiting

Orlando S. Carbolona Jr.

This event is shaping up to have some, but not much fanfare in between the band breaks and that is okay. We will be receiving some great, I mean absolutely sensational live music from the boys out of Pittsburgh, we will look pretty and debonair in our summer "white clothing" and we will be back at The Willowbrook in full force on a Sunday night that is becoming all to rare. Let's create a moment, huh?

Now Playing: At The Willowbrook Ballroom 8900 S. Archer Avenue in Willow Springs, IL.

First of All, check this out! This was hot and, one day we will get both bands same stage in Chicago, I promise! This is video of The Boilermakers and George Gee and Band on the same bill and stage.

The Boilermakers are here for Big Tyme's Third Annual "A Classic Night" featuring The Boilermaker Jazz Band and Summer White Clothing Attired Theme. Some people call it The "White Ball"! I have been apprehensive to do so but, if the shoe fits?

When: Sunday August 2, 2009  A Classic Night For Dance

Charleston Contest: A Classic Answer "YES"

                       The Charleston Trio Scuffle

A team of three it is! One Couple will be your partnered competitors and one girl/guy will be your secret solo weapon. There will be a heat(s) for the couples and heat(s) for the solo members. Team with the most points WIN!This will be determined by judges. Trophy and cash will be awarded to the best team.

Teams have to pick names. WHY, because, how can a team defend it’s title if it has no name? A team can still defend with different personnel as long as it retains the name and of course is passed on from the former members.

Teams also have to pick a color. This color will compliment your summer white wear and identify you on the competition floor as a member of a particular team. It could be a hat, an arm band or anything super creative and pronounced. Also I am lazy and I don’t want to make numbers and buy safety pins and stuff.

Teams only have to announce themselves in order to compete. No registration fees will be collected until the night of. One person from the group will handle the registration for the team. There will be a $25 entry fee PER TEAM!

Teams should begin to form and pick colors like right now and announce it like right here as soon as possible. First announced on names and colors is first had!

I need trash talking and some stretched out dancing to back it up! Let’s pick up the pace on this OKAY!

More details will emerge as I eat, sleep, drink and think but this is the basis of what ya got!

side note....

A good friend and very active participant in the Chicago Lindy Hop Scene for many years, Mike Butler, recently discovered that he is suffering from an advance form of Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade 4.

He is currently in treatment for this terrible form of brain cancer, and hopes to find himself in the 4% of victims of this disease to see the next 5 years of his life in front of him.

Please feel free to send him cards and well wishes at the address below. I can also furnish a telephone number for his dance partner if you send an email to rileythedj@comcast.net.
